SHELLY M. RETURNS WITH MORE BOOK REVIEWS

TITLE: Fire by Night

AUTHOR:  Lynn Austin

GENRE:  Historical Romance Fiction

BLURB:  Book 2 of Refiner's Fire. The drama of the Civil War unfolds through the eyes of two very different Northern girls. Lovely Julia Hoffman has always enjoyed the carefree life of her well to do family, but when she fails to attract the attention of Rev. Nathaniel Greene, a fierce abolitionist, she determines to bring meaning to her empty and shallow existence. When she becomes a Union nurse, her eyes are opened to the realities of war and suffering. She also meets Phoebe, who has entered the army under false pretenses and whose journey to understanding herself, as well as the tumultuous world about her, is revealed with sensitivity and drama.

REVIEW:  If you are into history and love to read fiction, then this is the book for you! Fire by Night is filled with romance, friendship, and history of the Civil War. I personally could not put this book down. Once I started this book, I had to keep reading to see what happened to each character. Lynn Austin captures your imagination and makes you feel as if you are there and experiencing everything along with her characters.

TITLE:  Christy Miller series Volume #1

AUTHOR:  Robin Jones Gunn

GENRE:  Young Adult

BLURB:  It all starts the summer Christy vacations on a California beach and meets two friends who change her life forever. But after moving across the country with her family, Christy must begin her sophomore year of high school uncertain where she'll fit in. A red-headed new best friend, a try at cheerleading, a job at a pet store, and expectations for the prom fill Christy's high school years with a string of laughter-and-tears moments. Fireball Katie keeps everyone guessing what she'll do next, and surfer Todd keeps showing up while popular Rick has determined to get her full attention! As these memorable years unfold, Christy and her God-loving friends find out what it means to be a "peculiar treasure." Follow Christy Miller as she stays true to her identity in Christ, drawing closer to God for help in realizing her dreams and dealing with her disappointments.

REVIEW:  This series of books is on my all time favorite book list. When I read this first volume I could not get enough of Christy Miller. What I love about these books is that it is about everything that was going on and still is going on in my life. Robin Jones Gunn does a great job at getting what a teen girl is going through. I got to the point with these books that I was addicted. Trust me when I say that you will not want to read just the first volume, but you will want to find all the books you can about Christy’s life so you can know how she turns out.

TITLE:  A Beauty So Rare

AUTHOR:  Tamera Alexander

GENRE:  Historical Romance

BLURB:  Eleanor Braddock—plain, practical, no stunning Southern beauty—knows she will never marry. But with a dying soldier's last whisper, she believes her life can still have meaning and determines to find his widow. Impoverished and struggling to care for her ailing father, Eleanor arrives at Belmont Mansion, home of her aunt, Adelicia Acklen, the richest woman in America—and possibly the most demanding, as well. Adelicia insists on finding her niece a husband, but a simple act of kindness leads Eleanor down a far different path—building a home for destitute widows and fatherless children from the Civil War. While Eleanor knows her own heart, she also knows her aunt will never approve of this endeavor.

Archduke Marcus Gottfried has come to Nashville from Austria in search of a life he determines, instead of one determined for him. Hiding his royal heritage, Marcus longs to combine his passion for nature with his expertise in architecture, but his plans to incorporate natural beauty into the design of the widows' and children's home run contrary to Eleanor's wishes. As work on the home draws them closer together, Marcus and Eleanor find common ground—and a love neither of them expects.

But Marcus is not the man Adelicia has chosen for Eleanor, and even if he were, someone who knows his secrets is about to reveal them all.

REVIEW:  This is a wonderfully written historical. In this book it is more about a budding romance and a woman finding her passion and dream that God has given her than about the historical. I loved this book in the fact that I could relate to the main character, Eleanor Braddock. I could relate to the part about having a dream and then finding out that you may have a totally different dream after all. I absolutely loved this book and could not put it down for one second.

Thank you, Shelly, for sharing your reviews!
