Review of The High Calling of Motherhood

I was blessed to receive an advanced PDF copy of Chimene Shipley Dupler’s book, The High Calling of Motherhood. When I read the bio about Chimene at the beginning of the book, describing her as a “well-respected speaker and professional on marriage and parenting”, and then learned that she is the founder of a national organization entitled Passion4Moms, I expected some heavy psychological reading.

Boy, was I wrong! Chimene has a delightful way of speaking to the heart of moms in a straight forward, compassionate, and inspirational manner. She touches on the deepest fears, frustrations, and fables that accompany motherhood. I zipped through the book, delighting in every word, in the space of one day.

Mind you, I read the book as a mother to two adult children and grandmother to one teenaged granddaughter. My years of wrestling with all the daily struggles of motherhood are far behind me. Suffice it to say, I wish this book had been available to me back then!

This insightful author shows moms their right to claim their place in God’s kingdom as esteemed by the Creator to raise the children entrusted to us. Biblical principles are employed throughout The High Calling of Motherhood. The book speaks to SAHMS (stay at home moms), working moms, single moms, moms of one child or many. We can’t do it all, and Chimene explains how to prioritize what is most important, whatever our motherhood circumstances.

Chimene talks about the spiritual battle we are engaged in as we fight against the standards of the world. Social media, the drive to compare our parenting skills and our children to everyone else, the demands on our time are some of the weapons we face. Chimene provides the tools to empower our children to be “world changers” through servant hood to Jesus.

I highly recommend this book to moms, whatever stage of the motherhood journey they are on, to use for an informative and inspirational reference. If you’re a grandmother, as I am, give it to your children who are raising their own kids. It would even make a great baby shower gift!

I was honored to host Chimene on my Blog Talk Radio show, Step Into the Light on February 28^th, the day before this blog tour started. Although I have not met her in person, the interview assured me that this author has a heart for moms, a desire to encourage and support moms, and a knowledge of the Bible to teach moms. She has packed all of that useful information into The High Calling of Motherhood to guide moms as they embark on their child-rearing journey.

Here is an excerpt from the interview:

“Women are very emotional beings that God created, and with those emotions come a lot of insecurities. One of the things that I have found, working with moms, is we become very inward focused when we sit at home behind our computer screen or on our mobile devices in the carpool line. It shifts our perspective from embracing the family that is right in front of our eyes that God has given us to comparisons with what everyone else is doing.”

“It is an emotional struggle daily to navigate how to balance a career, how to balance a relationship with a husband, and how to balance being intentional and proactively involved with their kids’ lives. I think the first thing to recognize is to admit that it’s hard and while many women choose that path, I will never be one to condemn a choice that is between them and God and their husbands and what’s right for their family.”
