GOD’S BREEZE

The breeze was key. Always the breeze. Without it, managing the walk proved difficult. I found walking in the heat and humidity a challenge. I love to walk and determined to get my exercise, and when hot and humid, I constantly asked the Lord for a breeze. He always brought it, sometimes in little spurts, sometimes rather strong, but mostly exactly right, enough to make the walk tolerable and most often so enjoyable.

As I age well beyond 50, that breeze is more and more necessary, and I’m thankful the Lord so faithfully provides it.

The Bible calls the Holy Spirit a wind, a breath. The Greek is pneuma, breath. Every day, as I walk through life, I need the breeze, the breath of the Holy Spirit, to guide me, make tough times tolerable, and all other times more enjoyable.

In writing, I need His breeze as well. His nudges are often like a little breeze and bring refreshment, direction, and ideas. When I was a little girl, I wanted to write. I wrote short stories in high school and poetry in college. I took a correspondence course on writing when my children were babies. Then life got busy and I didn’t think I could put myself in a room alone for hours a day to write. I was too social.

Then in my mid 50’s I felt the breeze, the nudge to write. It was a gentle breeze, light and airy, calling me. I made the assumption that the ideas that burst forth in my mind were a short story or even an article. I’d taught Bible Studies and had researched and put them together myself, of course at the leading of the Lord. This seemed similar but was a story. I began writing and found the story kept going and turned into a novel. However, I was clueless as to how to get a book published.

The best writing advice I ever received came from an established and well-known author: go to a writing conference. It was a breeze in the heat of not knowing which way to walk. I followed the breeze and attended the first of many conferences. Although my purpose was to improve and learn how to publish my novel (and discovered it was only half done), I was given the idea for my first book to be published. The Cheesehead Devotional, Kickoff Edition was published two years later. It was followed a few years later by The Cheesehead Devotional Hall of Fame Edition. These, of course, are devotionals for Green Bay Packer fans. In between those two editions, my futuristic novel, Society of the L.A.M.B., was published, followed by an inspirational cowboy romance novella, Run With the Wind, and a sweet short story, Christmas Ivy. Soon after came Blood Moon Redemption, a suspenseful novel. Each has won one award. Hall of Fame has won five awards while Blood Moon Redemption has won six, one of these a Selah – Third Place Mystery and Suspense.

My seventh book, Lainey of the Door Islands, is being published this summer by Ambassador International. I live in Door County, Wisconsin and in the past few years felt I should write a book about this beautiful place. One day, the breeze blew and I couldn’t stop writing.

So, all my books, awards, obtaining an agent, as well as retirement from teaching elementary school came after the age of 50. It’s been a lot of work while exhilarating as well. I don’t think I ever really foresaw this, but the breeze blew and I kept walking. So never choose to sit when you can walk. If you ask, He’ll send the breeze to keep you going, no matter what He’s breathing into you to do. Call out to Him whether it’s a daily walk on hot days, life in our troubled times, or your writing. He will provide the breeze to refresh you, guide you, and bless you. Finish the walk in His breezes.

My friend, Dena Hobbs, highly recommended this book for me and my granddaughter. I would love to be able to read this book. As a retired school teacher, I have always enjoyed books written for children the most. They have excellent stories without the garbage that is found in many books for adults.

I have been to Door County once for the weekend and I've lived in Wisconsin my whole life. It is absolutely breathtaking. The sights sounds and smells. Unfortunately I wasn't able to take in many of the quaint little shops or explore too far. From what I've read about your book I feel as if I'm thetheth
